Samuel a King
June 20, 2010

Samuel Dalembert got his wish. The Philadelphia 76ers traded Dalembert to the Sacramento Kings on Thursday for Andres Nocioni and Spencer Hawes.

Dalembert asked for a trade last year because he was unhappy with his role. Now, he got it.

"We are excited to add two players in Spencer Hawes and Andres Nocioni who will help us immediately and provide us with additional frontcourt depth," Sixers general manager Ed Stefanski said in a statement. "Spencer is a young seven-footer who will provide us with versatility at the center position, while Andres will provide us with a tough veteran presence."

Dalembert was Philadelphia's longest-tenured player, but he played for seven different coaches and never developed into a dominant force after being drafted in the first round in 2001. The 6-foot-11 center averaged 8.1 points and 8.3 rebounds in eight seasons with the Sixers and often was mentioned in trade rumors.

He joins a team that was 25-57 and had the second-worst record in the Western Conference.

"He will certainly bring a defensive presence and increase our ability to defend around the basket with his rebounding, shot-blocking and athleticism," Kings president Geoff Petrie said. "I think he'll add a very different look to our team defensively, and we're really excited about having him."

Sixers snap streak
December 15, 2009

The Sixers finally managed to pull out a win last night after losing 12 straight games. They outhustled and outrebounded their way to a win against the Golden State Warriors. Sam continued his excellent play last night notching a double double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. Even though the Sixers have been losing, Samuel has been playing outstanding basketball the past few weeks. In his last 5 games Sammy is averaging 9.6 points per game, 11.4 rebounds per game, and 2.8 blocks. They are some pretty solid numbers. When he is given 30+ minutes he will produce, let's hope Eddie Jordan keeps using him.

Welcome back good friend
December 8, 2009

Last night was all about the return of Allen Iverson to the team that drafted him and the city he gave his blood, sweat and tears for. Watching last night's game was amazing to see how a team just last week had no energy to one that was playing very inspiring basketball. Unfortunately it ended in a loss but let's not forget that it was against one of the top 5 teams in the league in Denver. I'm personally quite excited to watch the rest of the season as Iverson get acclimated to the team and back into game shape. Sammy also looked energized by the little guy being back he scored 8 points, most of them on either alley oops or dump offs from AI, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks. In the first half Sam was swatting away shot after shot and he looked like the player he's capable of being. I'm not sure how the season will play out from here but it sure will be interesting to watch.

Sam headed west?
November 17, 2009

News broke Tuesday morning from Marc Stein of ESPN that Sacramento and Philly have been talking about a trade that would send Sam to Sactown for Kenny Thomas. He also added that Boston has since become involved that would bring Scalabrine and Tony Allen to Philly and Nocioni to Boston. He stressed that this was just ongoing conversation and not a done deal...Stay tuned!

***Update*** Kate Fagan of Philly.com (who does a great job covering the Sixers I might add) wrote today that the three way trade that involved PHI-SAC-BOS that would of sent Sam to Sacramento was actually discussed in the offseason but never materialized. Sam says in his mind he is a 76er until he is told otherwise and he will make the best of the situation. He is just concetrating on winning and getting back over .500.

Sixers fight their way back to .500
November 12, 2009

OK, so this has been only my second post of the season since opening night because this season hasn't started the best for the Sixers and specifically Sam. He has been benched numerous times in the 4th quarter and is averaging a measley 22 minutes of action. In addition there has been news of Philly trying to trade him again but with no luck. All that combined with Philly's poor play has left me unmotivated lately to post. But as they say "it's a marathon not a sprint" and you always hope that the Sixers will get it together and play better as a team.

Now onto last nights game versus the Nets: After playing sparingly throughout the night the game was tight in the 4th quarter and Eddie Jordan inserted Sam to guard Brook Lopez. Sam made the defensive play of the night when he crowded Lopez on a spin move and blocked his shot and grabbed the rebound. "I always thought Sam was key for us," said Eddie Jordan of Dalembert's four blocked shots and eight rebounds in 24:39. Let's hope he doesn't forget.

Different year, same result
October 29, 2009

Just as last years playoffs, the Sixers had no answer for the Orlando Magic last night in the 2009-2010 season opener. Orlando shot a ridiculous percentage from three point land and Dwight Howard once again forced Sammy into a short night. For all his troubles Sam had 9 points, 2 rebounds and 2 nice blocks in just 16 minutes.

Sam's happy
October 9, 2009

What a difference a few months can make. After an offseason of trade requests and back and forths, Coach Jordan has wiped the slate with Sam clean and he, along with others, are liking the results. "I love Sam," Jordan said. "I love what Sam is doing for us. I love his approach, I love his attitude, I love his enthusiasm. . . . Sometimes I have to tell him, 'Look for your shot, look for your shot.' And he's a willing passer out of the post." Louis Williams added "He's happy. Sam is happy. He's joking with guys again, he's talking; he's back to his normal self. We're going to need him to be that way." Yes, we are only two games into the preseason (2-0 I might add) and the games don't count until October 28th but everyone has too agree that this is definitely a good sign for the Sixers. This recent news personally has me pumped for the upcoming season and I think Sammy and the Sixers will turn a few heads this year.

Training Camp opens
September 29, 2009

After a offseason of rumored trades and a new coach being hired Sam and the Sixers are back and looking ahead to the future because "the past is the past". Samuel is looking forward to the season and starting fresh with Coach Jordan to try and makes some noise in the Atlantic Divison and prove the critics wrong. Stay tuned here for all the latest updates from Training Camp and Let's Go Sixers!!

Thanks big Sam
May 2, 2009

After the sting of the game 6 loss has wore off and acceptance of watching other teams continue to play in the postseason, I think it is time to congratulate and thank Samuel and the Sixers team on a great season. There were so many ups and downs; the injury to Jason Smith, the poor start, firing Mo, Brand injury, the win streak and run to the playoffs, etc. but the Sixers fought through it all and definitely overacheived. That being said there will probably be many changes in Philadelphia this offseason and there is some question whether Sam will be here next year, given his trade request at the deadline. However, make no mistake, we will continue to bring you all the latest Samuel Dalembert news, whether it be from Philadelphia or anywhere else in the league.

Dwight Howard suspended for game 6
April 30, 2009

Samuel Dalembert's life just got a little easier, at least for one game. The NBA has suspended Dwight Howard for his intentional elbow on Sam and Orlando will have to rely on Marcin Gortat & Tony Battie to man the middle in game 6. The Magic will also be without Courtney Lee who suffered a fractured sinus after getting an unintentional elbow from Howard. Philly must make sure not to take this game as an automatic win just because Orlando are missing two starters, they are still a dangerous team when their three pointers are falling.

I think major props need to be given to Sam for not losing his cool and retaliating. Yes, Dwight is a Mack truck but Sam once went toe to toe with Dale Davis and didn't back down to Alonzo Mourning so he showed alot of restraint in not shoving or hitting Dwight back. Also, Sam has been playing through the shoulder strain that is still clearly bothering him, you can seem him wincing and grabbing his shoulder several times a game. This guy plays through pain.

Sixers lose game 5, Sam almost loses head
April 29, 2009

Orlando did what they were expected to do and that's win at home in game 5. Dwight Howard did something no one expected him to do and that's try to take Sam's head off with an elbow. Early in the first quarter Sam and Dwight were wrestling for position under the basket and Howard hauled off with an elbow just grazing Sam's head. Howard was not ejected (suprise, surprise) but was called for a technical foul. The play will definitely be sent to league offices for review and according to the rulebook Howard will likely miss game 6 in Philly. If he doesn't get suspended I will have lost all faith in the NBA.

Sixers on wrong end of game winner
April 27 ,2009

Despite playing his best game of the series, Samuel and the Sixers were unable to take game 4, because of a last second three by Hedo Turkoglu. Sam played great D down the stretch on Howard, clearly bothering him and also hindering other Orlando players driving down the lane. Sam finished the game with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and a block. This exciting series moves back to Orlando for game 5.

Sixers take game 3 thriller
April 25, 2009

Sam managed to stay out of foul trouble and play 30 minutes scoring 4 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Philadelphia also managed to pull out a huge win at home with Thad Young's last second layup. They will look to go up 3-1 in the series on Sunday night in Philly.

Sixers stun Magic, take game 1
April 20, 2009

Despite foul trouble from guarding beastly Dwight Howard one-on-one, Sam played an effective game posting 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 block in 17 minutes. Game 2 is set for Wednesday in Orlando.

Sixers clinch 6th, Dalembert injured
April 16, 2009

Philly managed to beat the Cavs 111-110 in OT, this in addition with a loss by Chicago means Philadelphia will finish 6th and will play Orlando in the first round. Sam was injured in the first quarter against the Cavs with a strained shoulder and did not return. More will be known today on the extent of the injury, luckily, Philadelphia doesn't play game one until Sunday.

Sixers close but lose to undermanned Celtics
April 14,2009

Despite a good defensive game from Sam (8 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks) the Sixers ended up on the wrong side of the game again tonight vs Boston, 100-98. Next up is the Cavs at home who have only lost one home game all year. The Sixers must win against Cleveland and Chicago must lose to Toronto in order for Philadelphia to clinch 6th seed. Not looking good but crazier things have happened.

Sixers lose 5th straight
April 12, 2009

Dalembert had a strong game posting 18 points, 12 rebounds, and a block but it wasn't enough to stop Philly from losing their 5th straight game.

Too little, too late
April 8, 2009

Sam played only 20 minutes in last nights loss to Charlotte. He posted 4 points, 9 rebounds and a block but was noticably absent in the 4th quarter where his defense and rebounding is needed.

Sixers lose game and ground
April 7, 2009

Sam posted 9 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks in Sunday's loss to New Jersey. The loss puts Philadelphia back in 6th place in the Eastern Conference. Next up a road game in Charlotte.

Sixers clinch playoff spot
April 6, 2009

Plagued by foul trouble Sam managed to only play 10 minutes vs. Detroit and score 6 points. However, more importantly, Philadelphia pulled out a win and clinched a playoff spot.

Sixers take 5th seed
April 3, 2009

Philadelphia defeated Milwaukee to take sole posession of the 5th spot in the Eastern Conference ahead of Miami. Dalembert posted 4 points and 10 rebounds in 19 minutes.

Sixers send Hawks back
April 1,2009

Samuel played through his calf injury and posted 6 points, 7 rebounds, and a block in Philadelphia's 98-85 win over Atlanta.

Help for Haiti
March 31, 2009

As the only current NBA player from the impoverished nation of Haiti, Samuel Dalembert feels a need to do whatever he can to help the children of his homeland. On Friday night, Dalembert will host Celebrasyon Kreyol, a celebration of Haitian culture that includes traditional music, dance, art and food, at World Café Live, Walnut Street near 30th. Tax-deductible tickets, with all proceeds going to the Samuel Dalembert Foundation, are $300 for individuals and $500 per couple. Dalembert, an avid philanthropist and humanitarian, has worked with UNICEF, the Red Cross, Feed the Children and Basketball Without Borders in addition to the time and money he funnels into his foundation. "It was almost like God had a scenario for me. I never thought I'd be where I am today," Dalembert said of his rise to fame, fortune and a position influential enough where he can make a difference in children's lives. "In Haiti, so many people don't have electricity, don't have clean water to drink," Dalembert said. "Lack of clean water is the No. 1 killer there. Kids die every day because they don't have access to clean water." The Samuel Dalembert Foundation hopes to alleviate that problem, as well as to provide educational opportunities for as many Haitian children as possible. "I'm not saying I can help a million kids - although my dream is to do that - but if I can help 50 or 100, that will change lives for the better," he said. "I can help as many as I can go to good schools, to become somebody."

Dalembert game time decision
March 31, 2009

Samuel Dalembert has played in 262 consecutive NBA games, but the 76ers' 6-11 center's mini-ironman streak is in jeopardy due to a strained calf that forced Dalembert off the court after he played only 7 minutes, 16 seconds in Sunday night's 101-97 loss to Detroit in Auburn Hills, Mich. "I'll see how it feels at [this morning's] shootaround," said Dalembert, who noted that he first injured the calf in a road game at Miami on Feb. 21, but aggravated it during the Sixers' recent West Coast trip.
